English Flash Games ★★★
http://englishflashgames.blogspot.com/
English Flash Games is an online resource for flash based games designed for learning vocabulary. It has a wide variety of game types including action verbs, animal memory, Christmas vocabulary, clothes, colors, family vocabulary, food, Halloween, Hangman, prepositions of the place, and scrambled words games. In addition, vocabulary focus can be set in the following categories: actions, animals, Christmas, clothes, colors, family, food and drink, fruit and vegetables, and Halloween. When looking at the various vocabulary groups, this website lists all the vocabulary words, a graphic representation of the word, and a link to hear the word pronounced. It is hosted by the Blogger website.
I really enjoyed these games. The Halloween game uses simple commands to move your player around the screen while you employ a magic wand to turn people, use of vocabulary, into various Halloween themed characters, such as black cats, spiders, and jack-o-lanterns. Other games were equally enjoyable and did not require the download of software or any additional steps--they may be accessed immediately. More importantly, this website offers the vocabulary lessons to reinforce learning. The material used in the games is explained, which is logical to me. Also, the Blogger website affords very few distracting advertisements. Since little control over what is advertised on these sites, the fewer ads the better. The author of this blog must be European since color is spelled colour. While this could present a point of confusion, I feel that the merits of the website certainly outweigh that point.
Welcome!
Welcome to my Electronic Notebook of Resources for English Language Learners (ELL). I created this site as a pre-service teacher; and, I hope it is a resource that may be valuable to all educators. An educator does not have to be a teacher--an educator may be an administrator, a parent, or even a student. One of my primary goals is to assist students in becoming self sufficient, boldly independent--to become self-educators. After all, one of the greatest lessons I have learned is understanding the methods and styles of learning that suit me best, including how to seek out information and people who possess it. In my search for online resources, I found ten websites that are provide many learning opportunities, especially for students studying English language.
I have included a rating system for each resource on a 1-4 star scale, a brief description, a brief impression, a url link, as well as a screen shot for each website. Enjoy!
