Welcome!

notebook.jpg (300×300) Welcome to my Electronic Notebook of Resources for English Language Learners (ELL). I created this site as a pre-service teacher; and, I hope it is a resource that may be valuable to all educators. An educator does not have to be a teacher--an educator may be an administrator, a parent, or even a student. One of my primary goals is to assist students in becoming self sufficient, boldly independent--to become self-educators. After all, one of the greatest lessons I have learned is understanding the methods and styles of learning that suit me best, including how to seek out information and people who possess it. In my search for online resources, I found ten websites that are provide many learning opportunities, especially for students studying English language.
I have included a rating system for each resource on a 1-4 star scale, a brief description, a brief impression, a url link, as well as a screen shot for each website. Enjoy!

ESL Lesson Plans and Resources

ESL Lesson Plans and Resources ★★★
http://www.csun.edu/~hcedu013/eslplans.html

This is a great starting point website for ELL teachers. It provides links to various resources including an adult education ELL teacher’s guide, a compilation of conversation starters, a bulletin board where teachers in the field exchange ideas, another website that provides generalized ESL information, learning games websites, and a library lesson plans. The lesson plan resource provides three pages of sites that allow users to rate and review the content in a format similar to yelp.com. It has content for teachers, students, everyone, and job seekers.

I explored a lesson plan about reading comprehension that was very helpful. It involved two short stories or passages with student partners who take notes on index cards and later retell the story to a partner. I feel like this site is a great resource but because it is user based material that is uploaded by teachers around the world, it may take some time to sift through some lesser quality material but find some excellent ideas and practices. The games sections are not online games like I was expecting, but rather activities that do not require a computer. This would be a great resource for a rainy day, a substitute day, a day the class needs to unplug, or as a back up for power outages. A few of the links are broken.
